Eternal Sunshine

Last week I did a review on an action movie and this week I took a chance on a romantic movie called “eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.” The movie was directed by Michael Gondry in 2004 starring Jim Carrey at his finest. I was able to watch this wonderful film through Netflix and was amazed at how easy it was to relate to the characters involved.

The movie is about how Joel (Jim Carrey) sees his ex-giriflrend Clementine (Kate Winslet) an talks to her but then realizing she didn’t recognize him. He later discovers that she erased all the memories from their relationship and for revenge he decided to go to a clinic to erase all his memories of his ex-girlfriend as well. During the process though, he realizes that all the memories are very important no matter how painful it is to bear. Even though the movie seems a bit far-fetched at time, it ties well altogether with the emotion as the center of it all and helps the audience relate to the movie.
Overall the movie was very satisfying to watch since the plot was creative and not too complicated for the mass audience. Joel was very easy to understand throughout the movie and couldn’t help but relate to the feelings he have gone through with relationships.  Clementine was fun to watch throughout the movie as well since she was quite the opposite of Joel; extroverted, wild, and carefree. It seem as though the whole point of the movie was that at the end of the day, our memories is pretty much all we have and if they disappear then in a way, we will disappear as well.
Two thumbs up for this great romantic movie.

  1. This sounds like an interesting movie. The idea of erasing someone from your memory sounds scary. But I think this movie could also be very funny. I want to watch it soon.
